Can you remember back to the new year (was it really SIX months ago?!?!?!), when you made health and fitness goals? And then you never achieved those goals after you lost ALL of your motivation by the time Easter came around? You may have even joined a gym or Weight Watchers (before it went bankrupt, lol!). Or maybe you even subscribed to an online plan like Noom or Zoe, because the Diary of a CEO podcast told you it was the best and fastest way to lose weight. Or maybe you even went full on with a health and fitness regime that worked for you in the past, but that was before perimenopause started rearing its head and so this time you’ve found that it doesn’t work anymore.

You were so convinced that this time it would be different, but now it’s six months later and you’re still dragging your body around through the day, feeling tired and completely frustrated. You’re sick and tired of your clothes not fitting properly and your energy only comes in random bursts (and disappears just as fast). So, will this be the summer that your motivation shows back up and you finally make real changes stick? Because you want to feel good, to look fabulous and to actually like the reflection that is staring back at you in the mirror.

But that buzz of motivation you had at the start of the year is harder to find. The plan feels less like a plan and more like a loose collection of “should ofs”. And if you’re completely honest with yourself, you’re feeling as if you’ve started to unravel. You’ve caught yourself secretly saying things like, “I just need to get back on it” more times than you care to admit. And in your quieter moments when no one is watching, a whisper surfaces that maybe this is just another wish or fantasy, which feels completely heartbreaking.

How To Get Your Sparkle Back

I want you to know that this sense of letting yourself down isn’t because you’re lazy or lacking discipline. And it certainly isn’t because you’re too old, too hormonal or too far gone (even though that’s probably what your inner critic is trying to tell you). The truth is far simpler — what you had was never a real plan to begin with. Because here’s the hard truth that no one talks about — you can’t build lifelong, sustainable change (especially not during the unpredictable, shapeshifting season of peri-menopause) without something stronger holding you up. You need structure and purpose, along with a healthy foundation specifically catered to you. And you won’t find it in whatever some faddy diet is telling you or what some random app suggests — or even what the latest influencer coach on Instagram swears by. To truly shift things, you need all three of the following foundational pillars in place…

1. You need to get crystal clear on WHAT you actually want

Saying things like, “I just want to lose weight” or “I want to be healthier” is extremely vague. You need to get specific about what you want to achieve. So, is your focus about waking up without joint pain? Or having enough energy to get through the day without feeling like you’ve been hit by a speeding train? Or do you just want to confident in a little black dress again? Knowing EXACTLY what you want, as well as deeply and truthfully meaning it, will help to define your health and fitness journey on your own terms, not what you think society wants.

2. You need to know WHY you want it

And no, I don’t mean the polite, surface-level reasons like “to feel better”. Yes, that matters, but what lies underneath is far more powerful. Maybe it’s because you’re terrified of becoming invisible. Maybe it’s because you’re tired of shrinking yourself to meet expectations of those that don’t serve you. Maybe it’s because you want to reclaim your body from years of giving it over to work, family and stress. The deeper your why is, the stronger the fuel will be to get your health and fitness back on track.

3. You need to decide HOW you’re going to get there

This is where most health and fitness plans fall apart, because it’s not about finding the latest faddy diet or the trendiest exercise app. It’s about finding what fits YOU, your life, your energy levels, your hormones, your current fitness activity (or lack thereof!), and your busy schedule. Your health and fitness routine isn’t supposed to be punishing. It’s supposed to work. And not just for a few weeks, but for life!!! Because here’s the thing — perimenopause isn’t working against you. Yes, your body is changing and your hormones are shifting. Your sleep might be erratic, your moods might swing wildly and your usual “go-to” methods might not deliver the same results as they did before. But that’s not failure — it’s simply biology. And biology doesn’t mean surrender. It just means that you have to adapt a new strategy to evolve with you.

So, now what? Well, your next step is to decide where your best support will come from. Because let’s be honest, whenever we try to figure it all out alone, especially in the swirl of contradictory information, unhelpful advice and unrealistic expectations of the “slimming industry”, you can feel confused and it will keep you stuck in fantasyland, where your plans will be just dreams in disguise. So, instead try and imagine surrounding yourself with people who get it — just like yours truly and the team at B-Fit, who know what it feels like to stare down a fridge full of healthy food and still want white toast smothered in butter, who understand what it means to push through a workout when your energy is running on empty.

All of our lovely clients have found a way that works for them with their changing bodies, not against them. And this kind of support isn’t wishful thinking, because you were never supposed to figure out losing weight in perimenopause on your own, while also juggling all the other spinning plates in your life. What you need now is not another quick-fix program or motivational meme. You need a real one plan that is rooted in understanding who you are, backed by support that not only lifts you up, but also holds you accountable and reminds you that you’re not broken or alone.

So maybe, instead of dusting off the same routine you started in the new year, hoping that it works better for you this time (it won’t!), what about choosing differently? Maybe it’s time to stop chasing the fantasy and start building a sustainable healthy future that actually fits who you are right now. Because you don’t need perfect, you just need to be real!!!  CLICK HERE to grab one of my FREE B-FIT JULY HEALTH ASSESSMENTS!!!
