Since the end of last year, ‘miracle’ fat jabs became Hollywood’s worst-kept secret. Originally designed to help diabetics control their blood sugar and insulin, injectable medications Ozempic and Wegovy have been all over the news recently. That’s because of the gossip circulating that many A-list celebs have been using these diabetes drugs to get and keep thin, which is not what they’re meant to be used for.
Skinny celebs — like Real Housewife alum Kyle Richards, rocket boy Elon Musk and, of course, Kardashian sisters Kim and Khloe — are rumoured to have been taking these magical injections to keep them that way. This can seem like a fairytale ending to people who feel desperate about their current weight situation.
Just recently, NICE (the National Institute for Health and Clinical Evidence) announced that Wegovy, which is up to 2.5 times stronger than Ozempic, has been cleared for use and will soon be available on the NHS for people with a BMI of 35 or over, in an effort to control the UK’s obesity epidemic. Ozempic is already available on the NHS and has only been licensed for used for patients that have type 2 diabetes, although it has been administered from private clinics to people who aren’t diabetic and simply want to lose weight.
The Science Part
Ozempic and Wegovy are just two of the brand names based on an injectable drug called semaglutide, which has been made to lower the blood sugar of type 2 diabetics. It also slows down the digestive process and surpresses appetite, so you feel full for longer, and triggers signals to the brain that causes you not to feel hungry. People who take semaglutide also have to eat a cleaner diet and exercise in order for the jab to work.
Although many people have experienced rapid weight loss as a result of using this drug, once you stop taking it, those benefits soon go away, so blood sugar levels will climb up again, you’ll need more food to feel full, and any weight that was lost is very likely to return. This means that if you want to stay skinny, then you’ll have no choice than to inject yourself weekly — for the rest of your life — although NICE has only approved for the drug to be prescribed for a maximum of two years.
Healing The Body Isn’t A Quick Fix
And then there’s what’s known as ‘Ozempic face’, which as a hashtag has more than 11.2 million views on TikTok, so it seems that this is a very common phenomenon associated with taking this jab. Rapid and massive weight loss usually affects the face before the rest of the body, leaving sagging and wrinkled skin that can make you look much older than you are.
In addition, according to drugs.com, the use of semaglutide comes with quite a few side effects, many of which are quite serious. And you won’t hear any A-listers talking about that. Some of the severe adverse effects include:
- Suicidal behaviour and depression
- Thyroid cancer
- Vision loss
- GI adverse events, such as vomiting, diarrhoea, dehydration and kidney dysfunction
Some of the more common side effects include:
- Trouble breathing
So, despite being hailed in the media as an obesity miracle cure to fight fat, this ‘quick fix’ won’t make you healthy. In fact, healing the body is never a quick fix, especially when there is toxic buildup in the body from things like eating too much sugar, too many processed foods, drinking too many fizzy or energy drinks and alcohol, not getting enough sleep and not moving your body enough.
Plus, if you have to make changes to your lifestyle by exercising more and eating a cleaner diet in order for these injectable drugs to work at all, then why not just do that anyway, along with the support of something like one of my B-Fit packages? Taking this route won’t leave your body with any nasty side effects, nor will you have to have to worry about piling the pounds back on if you stop taking the drug. AND your body will be feeling more healthy and energised, which will have you feeling much more confident and happy as a result, because of the satisfaction that you healed your body yourself!!!
Of course, bariatric surgery is another popular ‘quick fix’ to weight loss, with British celebs like Sharon Osbourne, TOWIE’s James Argent and Vanessa Feltz having taken this route. Recently former West Ham and Liverpool footballer Neil “Razor” Ruddock has been showing off his ‘impressive’ weight loss due to going under the knife.
However, again, what is not shown are the many complications that can happen after choosing this quick fix weight loss option. For example, many people experience either short-term and long-term complications after this type of surgery. Long-term adverse effects include chronic nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, as well as malnutrition as a result of the body not being able to absorb nutrients properly. Other long-term complications are gallstones, blood clots and continued body image dissatisfaction as a result of the excess of skin that needs further surgery to get rid of. This means that this major surgery should be seen only as a last result for the morbidly obese, who have an increased risk of dying from other co-morbidities.
Doing It The B-Fit Way
When you lose weight in a healthy way, by changing your lifestyle to accommodate nutritious unprocessed foods and regular exercise that caters to your current fitness levels, two immediate results are a boost in your mental wellbeing, as well as a rise in your energy levels. You will also release toxins from your fat cells, and build muscle tissue, which helps you to continue burning fat off of your body. In addition, you won’t be left with tons of excess skin that needs surgery, because your skin cells will also go through a rejuvenation process.
So, if you really want to create a lasting change to the situation you now find yourself in, then I’m here to help you lose weight in a sustainable and healthy way that will not only have you looking great, but feeling amazing as a bonus.
