9 HORMONE DISRUPTERS TO AVOID

There are a number of hormone disrupters that you may be encountering without even knowing it!

These include:

• Poor sleep
• Skincare and makeup
• Stress
• Poor diet
• Home cleaning products
• Lack of exercise
• Caffeine
• Energy and fizzy drinks
• Certain supplements

I could go on and on but the bottom line is all these have a hugely disruptive impact on your hormones which in turn causes havoc on your health.

Here’s 5 DIY tips to help you reduce these disruptors and balance your hormones naturally through simple lifestyle changes.

1. REDUCE MENTAL & EMOTIONAL STRESS

It’s so important we incorporate tools to help us deal with stress better. It could be time in nature, an aromatherapy bath, or 15 mins of meditation. The important thing is it works for YOU.

A great herb for stress is Ashwagandha. You can read all about it HERE. Also, you may want to look into using a good quality CBD oil. There’s really good evidence that it helps with stress and anxiety.

2. CREATE A CONSISTENT & BALANCED SLEEP ROUTINE

Yes, the good old 8 hours a night rule applies here. Sleep in total darkness as light disrupts hormone production during sleep. Get blackout curtains, an organic eye mask and ditch the electronics in your bedroom. For more tips on how to get a proper night’s sleep, check out my blog HERE.

3. EAT ENOUGH HEALTHY FATS & A WELL BALANCED DIET

Eating a balanced toxic-free diet that includes all of the macro and micro nutrients your body needs is key to keeping your hormones balanced. For example, getting enough protein, healthy fats and also low glycaemic carbohydrates is important. Also reduce alcohol intake, sugar and eating processed foods. Swap coffee for green tea. Cut out dairy which is highly inflammatory. Lastly, consider taking natural supplements such as OMEGA 3-6-9 & EVENING PRIMROSE OIL.

4. MOVE YOUR BODY ON THE DAILY

Getting enough cardiovascular exercise, strength building exercise, as well as stretching or restorative fitness, is critical to supporting hormones.

5. REMOVE TOXIC CHEMICALS FROM YOUR HOME & SKINCARE ROUTINE

Alas, toxins are not just in what we eat/drink, they are everywhere. One such place is cleaning products used in the home and the products we use on our bodies e.g. skincare, makeup, shampoos and so on.

Does this mean you have to invest a ton of money on toxic-free living? No. All things in balance. What I mean by this is simply take it one step at a time. Replace toxic products with natural, safe, eco-friendly and non-toxic alternatives. Buy what you can and make the rest. There’s plenty of great DIY home cleaning and even beauty product recipes out there that will make going toxin-free cost-effective and fun.

Here’s a simple DIY recipe for an all-purpose non-toxic cleaner for your home:

• 1 cup distilled water
• 1 cup white distilled vinegar
• ½ lemon juiced (optional)
• 15 drops of lavender, peppermint, geranium or lemon essential oil

Simply mix them all together, pour into a glass spray bottle and use.

I hope this blog has inspired you, given you food for thought and more importantly spurred you into ACTION.
